What is an elephant? where are they found? Why are they endangered?
Elephants are among the most intelligent of the creatures with whom we share the planet, with complex consciousnesses that are capable of strong emotions. Asian elephant smaller than the African ones. Their ears resembles our continent.The largest threats to the Asian elephant are poaching and habitat loss. Their tusks are worth a lot of money on the black market, so large-tusked males are in constant danger of being poached. Elephants are also captured alive for domestic use, such as tourist attractions. Also, as the rainforest they call home are cut down, the closer these elephants must become to humans. They will start feeding on farmers’ crops, which puts them at risk of being killed.
What are we gonna do to protect them?
Elephant Parade organized by Elephant Family will take place across Jaipur, Delhi and Mumbai, India, in 2018. This public art event aims to generate vital funds to secure 101 elephant corridors across India for the endangered Asian elephant.
As development in India increases with more roads, power lines, railways and human settlements, the funds needed are crucial to ensure a brighter future for both elephants and people who share the same land. The 101 painted elephants will create a striking spectacle of colour and showcase the nation’s most creative artists and emerging talents, whilst celebrating one of India’s most beloved and endangered animal – the elephant.
Who all have taken initiatives?
Elephant Parade is the world’s largest public art event and has been exhibited in 24 countries world-wide. Top creatives across India have transformed 101 white elephant sculptures into powerful pieces of art to raise awareness for the endangered Asian elephant. Elephant Parade India is curated by Farah Siddiqui and Aqdas Tatli and features works by fashion designers, architects, fine artists, tribal, folk and street artists who are working together to bring this incredible exhibition to India for the first time. The full collection of elephants will take up residence on the streets of Mumbai in February 2018, following preview events in Jaipur, Kolkata and Delhi in 2017.
When will the auction take place?
The auction of the elephant parade is already going on on the online process. The people who want to buy have only 11 days for this auction.
